When we began walking, the hike seemed impossible. Every step that we took, was more exhausting after the other but when we reached the peak of the mountain, the view was completely worth it.

In the beginning the walk was like a slow and easy, like my usual walk to school. I listened to my friends’ stories for the first half hour before the trail began exhaust to us. We stopped at an intersection to catch our breaths.

Ant, our guide, took us through a mind game where the only rule was that if you figured it out, you couldn’t tell anyone else the answer. The point of the game was to allow you to think outside of the box. I only figured it out near the end, when we were about to leave.

As we continued on our hike, the trail only became steeper and rockier. We all complained together and when we arrived at the halfway mark, we all slumped down onto the rocks. Ant then told us another mind game but this time I didn’t get it at all.

Our hike went on for another two hours before we finally climbed to the peak of the mountain. We could see far into the distance. It was spectacular. We climbed around the rocks to take photos of the grand view. As we settled down, Ant told us that we would never be able to go through the same experience with the exact group of people, in the exact season or exact weather conditions in our lives. I thought that it was really deep but I just couldn’t express it into words.

The hike down the mountain was a great deal more comfortable. We were able to get down the mountain in a third of the time it took us to get up! Ant asked us if we wanted to take a short cut through the bush to get back to camp. We all voted for it.

We slid through a few steep hills with prickly plants until we finally reached a log over running water. We had to walk across the log, like the plank on a pirate ship. Luckily, Ant was there to guide us across the log with a large branch.

After we crossed the log, and then another steep, dirt hill, every single one of us sprinted to our cabins to try to get one of the three showers to wash off all the sweat and dirt that we had on us following our exhausting hike.
